Is Colon Cancer Genetic?
"People with colon cancer may not show early signs, but symptoms will start to appear once the disease worsens. The progression of colon cancer will also depend on the stage and invasiveness of the tumor.
Symptoms may also vary depending on the number and size of the cancer tumors and where they are located in the intestinal tract. Some symptoms also result from where the cancer cells spread, the liver, for example." - KnowYourDNA

Cancer
Treatment Centers
Although Cancer Treatment
Centers of America developed the Patient Empowerment Medicine
model long before we coined the term, it's a concept foreign
to most patients. That's because it is practiced by only a
handful of care providers. The extent to which it is offered
is limited to the fields of the healing arts and alternative
medicine. There are, to be sure, no other multi-disciplinary
cancer centers that have embraced this philosophy of care.
National
Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR)
The National Foundation for
Cancer Research (NFCR) was founded in 1973 to support cancer
research in the laboratory. NFCR research conducted at both
the cellular and molecular levels is leading to better prevention,
earlier diagnosis, new treatments and eventually a cure of
cancer. By supporting the best ideas of the best minds and
by facilitating collaboration among NFCR Project Directors,
advances in one field contribute to discoveries in another.
This is what NFCR's "Laboratory Without Walls" makes
possible.
Information
on CT-Scans for Lung Cancer
Check with your doctor on
this popular checkup. But we were told these scans are not
so simple, using 10-times the radiation needed for a normal
scan. This then raises the question , "If no early
cancer is detected, just when do you get your next scan and
then how many times during your remaining lifetime?"
The
American Society of Dermatology Melanoma Skin Lesion Chart
Melanoma kills when gone undetected
in its very early stages. PLEASE check with your doctor on
how you can visually scan your own body for possible melanoma
skin lesions on any part on your body.
Using the chart below, you
can begin to sense when something doesn't look right and to
make an immediate appointment with your dermatologist. But
be sure you request to be fully undressed when visiting. Some
doctors may only check where you say you think the problem
is located on your skin.
My wife, accidentally finding
a dermatologist that unexpectedly had her totally undress,
had her life saved, a melanoma discovered in its early stages,
her having no idea it was there. They say if you don't develop
cancer after five years of discovering a melanoma, all the
cancer cells were probably removed from the surgery. This
surgery can be extensive, as its objective is to seek out
and find any potential migrating cells away from the lesion.

Foods that help the prostate
"Now, a new discovery adds further support to the theory that your diet can protect against cancer: Certain compounds found in common foods may actually thwart the growth of prostate cancer, researchers from the University of Texas at Austin found. First, the researchers tested 142 natural compounds that occur in food on mice and human prostate cancer cell lines. Then, they tested the most promising of these compounds on animals with the disease." -

Human
Genome Project
.
. . Begun formally in 1990, the U.S. Human Genome Project was
a 13-year effort coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy
and the National Institutes of Health. The project originally
was planned to last 15 years, but rapid technological advances
accelerated the completion date to 2003. Project goals were
to identify all
the approximately 20,000-25,000 genes in human DNA,
determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs
that make up human DNA, store this information in databases,
improve tools for data analysis, transfer related technologies
to the private sector, and address the ethical, legal, and social
issues (ELSI) that may arise from the project.
